Basketry: function
The most common technique in ancient Egypt for basketry was coiling. Coiled baskets are quite strong; they are used in the home for the storage of various objects, such as personal belongings and jewellery in smaller baskets, and linen in bigger ones (see for example UC 28009, found at Hawara with hairnets inside). Potstands, sandals and mats (for the floor and for roofing) are also very often made in basketry.
