Middle Kingdom (about 2025-1700 BC)
(Hair?) pins are not attested in the Old Kingdom (about 2686-2181 BC) , but seem to be common in the Middle Kingdom and later, although the precise function of single pins is often uncertain.
New Kingdom (about 1550-1069 BC)
In the Roman Period, in Egypt as elsewhere hairpins were a popular item of female headwear: there is therefore a great range of motifs adorning the upper end of pins, including figurative as well as geometric designs.
