Darren Chetty

Darren is a Lecturer (Teaching) on the °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Arts & Sciences (BASc) programme. He is an affiliate at the °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Sarah Parker Remond Centre for the Study of Racism and Racialisation. Prior to this, he taught for a number of years on the BA Education Studies at the °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Institute of Education. He taught in primary schools for over twenty years and continues to work with schools on policy, curriculum and pedagogy. He has a MA in Education from Goldsmiths College, and a BA (Ed) from Exeter University.  

Darren’s doctoral research focuses on education, philosophy for children, multiculturalism and racism. He has published academic work on philosophy, education, racism, dialogue, children’s literature and hip-hop culture.  

He co-edited Critical Philosophy of Race and Education and has co-edited special issues of Wasafiri, Ethics and Education, and Global Hip-Hop Studies.Ìý

Darren writes also for general readers. He is a contributor to the bestselling book, The Good Immigrant, edited by Nikesh Shukla (Unbound). He is co-author, with Adam Ferner, of How To Disagree: Negotiating Difference in a Divided World (Quarto). Darren is lead editor of Welsh (Plural): Essays on the Future of Wales (Repeater).ÌýHe writes, with Karen Sands O’Connor, a regular column for Books for Keeps on the representation of racially minoritised people in British children’s literature. A book based on the columns will be published by the English Media Centre in 2024.Ìý

For younger readers, Darren co-authored, with Jeffrey Boakye, What Is Masculinity? Why Does It Matter? And Other Big Questions (Wayland) and contributed to The Mab: Eleven Epic Stories from the Mabinogi edited by Matt Brown and Eloise Williams.Ìý
