Online Seminar | Things that think a little – IoT at °×С½ãÂÛ̳ East
17 March 2021, 11:30 am–12:30 pm
Professor Duncan Wilson, will discuss the use of IoT in the Built environment, presenting work from the °×С½ãÂÛ̳'s Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, IoT work underway at °×С½ãÂÛ̳ EAST, and lessons learned from 20 years of implementing IoT in the built environment. This will be an exciting exploration of IoT from °×С½ãÂÛ̳'s Professor of Connected Environments for our final seminar of the Second Term.

Things that think a little – IoT at °×С½ãÂÛ̳ East
What does it mean to sense and monitor our built environment?
If intelligent buildings have been around since the 1980’s then what is all this fuss over the Internet of Things?
Duncan will talk about ongoing work in the Bartlett focused on connected environments, will describe work underway at °×С½ãÂÛ̳ East - °×С½ãÂÛ̳'sÌýnew campusÌý -ÌýÌýto create a living lab and will make some observations based on 20 years of trying to implement IoT in the built environment.

About the Speaker
Duncan Wilson
Professor of Connected Environments at The Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA)
Duncan Wilson is Professor of Connected Environments in The Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) at °×С½ãÂÛ̳. His research focuses on how emerging technologies such as connected sensors and cognitive computing can augment our understanding of the built and natural environment. He is Director of Enterprise and Partnerships for CASA providing support for the department in developing industry collaborations
The Connected Environments research at CASA feeds into the Future Living Institute at °×С½ãÂÛ̳ East, a new Masters on Connected Environments and focuses on three core research vectors; cognitive computing - AI at the edge of the network on resource constrained devices; extra sensory computing - novel methods for capturing data and humans receiving it; and spatial reasoning systems - how we can augment / improve our world models with continuous post occupancy information.
He is a Chartered Engineer (IET) with a PhD from °×С½ãÂÛ̳ in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Vision. He has over 20yrs of digital technology, R&D, innovation and strategy experience, primarily working at the interface between industry and academia. He is a member of the Smart London Board and previously worked for Intel, Arup and Sainsbury’s.
