Target Medicine Mentoring Scheme (TMMS) is a year-long programme for Year 12 students from underrepresented backgrounds with the potential and desire to go to medical school. Students must be from in and around Greater London and able to commute toÌý°×С½ãÂÛ̳'s main campus for mentor sessions.
The mentoring scheme takes place over an entire calendar year, starting from January when students are in Year 12, through to December, when students are in Year 13 and ready to apply to medical school.Ìý Students will take part in six classroom-based mentoring sessions on campus, e-mentoring, and have the opportunity to attend additional events.
About the Mentoring Scheme
Successful applicants will be paired with a current °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Medical Student who will act as their mentor for an entire calendar year. The programme is made up of six 'face to face' group mentoring sessions that will take place in person (unless covid restrictions require us to go online), regular contact with your mentor using the Brightside online e-mentoring platform, and a series of additional information, advice and guidance events.
Face to face mentorÌýsessions
Each classroom based session has a tailored lesson plan to provide you with practical support and information to help you become a competitive candidate for medical school. Mentoring sessions include information and support on:
- Preparing to apply to medical school
- Choosing the right medical school for you
- How to obtain work experience
- Personal statements
- Admissions interviews
E-mentoring
Mentors and mentees will be expected to communicate regularly using the Brightside online mentoring platform. We expect all mentors and mentees to message at least once a fortnight.Ìý
Events
Participants are encouraged to attendÌýadditional events throughout the year that are designed to help studentsÌýapply to medical school. Mentees will be expected to attend at least two events
