Description
The module is designed to apply underpinning science and engineering knowledge gained in earlier modules towards the complete design of a bioprocess facility for the production of biotech products arising out of life science discoveries. Such products would typically include biopharmaceutical products arising out of Phase II clinical trials.
Upon completion of the course, a student will acquire skills to examine key phases in the design cycle applied to facility design, while applying engineering principles and life science knowledge to an industrially-relevant open-ended problem, and to make decisions under uncertainty and with incomplete data. Specifically, the students will be able to:Ìý
-
Create and analyse bioprocess flowsheets,ÌýÌý
-
Economically appraise bioprocess flowsheets,Ìý
-
Perform detailed design of the facility and the bioprocess equipment required to satisfy GMP and safety, health and environmental (SHE) regulations, including sustainable manufacturing goalsÌý
-
Plan, organize and prioritize team activities,ÌýÌý
-
Defend design options and decisions takenÌý
