Module Outline:
The aim of this course is to teach students the fundamentals of modern chemical dynamics and modern experimental methods in chemical physics.
Module Aims:
At the end of the module students should be able to:
- Interpret scattering data from molecular collisions and connect them to the underlying physical mechanism.
- Understand molecular collision in the gas phase and in solution from first principles.
- Understand how lasers work and the properties of laser light.
- Learn how lasers can be employed to understand molecular structure and dynamics.
- Apply quantum mechanical principles to understand photophysical observations.
- Determine photophysical mechanisms from presented data and observations.
Teaching and Learning Methods:
Lectures: The topics will be introduced through a blended delivery of asynchronous videos with online activities, and support hours.
Workshops: To support your learning a revision workshop will be held for each topic.
Self-study: In addition to timetabled hours it is expected that you engage in self-study in order to master the material. This can take the form of practicing example questions (additional questions available on Moodle and past exam questions) and further reading in textbooks and online.
