Description
BARC0101 Ethics and Agency builds on the foundations set by BARC0092 Making Cities in year one and continues to look at the relationship betweenÌýcities, teams and projects.
Making CitiesÌýis cross-disciplinary and explores the role of multiple built environment professions with one another alongside a wide range of protagonists. It addresses broad issues of power in the city.
Ethics and AgencyÌýspecifically explores the role of the architect. It questions the values that underpin behaviour - as individuals, working collectively, and engaging with wider society. ‘Agency’ means the ability to take action or to choose what action to take.
The focus of the module is on theÌýformation of relationships and behavioursÌýthat underpin the design and delivery of built environment projects.
The module exploits London as its primary resource. Students undertakeÌýcritical and creative research on contemporary forms of practiceÌýundertaken within the city. A programme of lectures and events provides a panorama of perspectives, delivered by a range of speakers from across °×С½ãÂÛ̳ and those operating in professional practice.
Students deepen their criticalÌýresearch skills and work in teamsÌýto create a research report (a ‘manifesto’) informed and linked to individually produced components (an ‘atlas’).
