Description
This module aims to introduce the study of two key geospatial technologies – Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote sensing.Ìý GIS is a software platform designed to capture, store, manage, analyse, manipulate, and present geographic or spatial data.Ìý GIS is widely used throughout the private and public sector within, and outside of, Earth Sciences (ES). Remote sensing (RS) is the science of making observations of the earth (and other planets) using sensors on airplanes, drones or satellites, and is an important source of spatial data. Students will gain experience and understanding of multiple forms of spatial and remote sensing data including census and survey data, photogrammetry from unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and airborne and satellite-based multi-spectral/hyperspectral, lidar and radar data.
GEOL0015 Maps, Images and Structures and GEOL0058 Matlab are pre-requisites.
This module is restricted to Earth Sciences students only.
