Description
This module enables first year undergraduate students to gain practical experience of a range of virtual and/or field and data analytical methods in Geography by using London as a virtual and/or fieldsite and resource. The focus is on teaching of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. It will cover research design, good fieldwork practice, and the strengths and limitations of various methods and approaches to analysis, visualisation and interpretation of data with a focus on group work and presentational skills.
Geography in the Field 2 uses London as a means of developing geographical skills, insights and engagement through actual engagement with field sites. There is direct continuity with 'Geography in the Field 1' in the use and practice of data collection and data analysis skills.
The aims of this module are to 1) provide initial training in human and physical geography techniques that will be crucial in subsequent modules, 2) provide practical experience of a wide range of virtual data collection and interpretation methods, and 3) foster both independent and team working skills.
This module is a compulsory course for BA/BSc Geography, BA Geography with Social Data Science and BA/BSc Geography (International) students.
