Description
This module is a student-led course, involving an independent, in-depth exploration of a specific topic in physical or human geography working under the supervision of a member of staff in the department. The aim of this course is for students to gain an understanding of a topical area of geographical research (such as an emerging field of literature or a specific data set) through independent study. It will help students to develop your ability to review academic debates and/or interpret and evaluate datasets and will enhance skills at synthesizing and presenting evidence.
Individual members of academic staff will offer specific projects for students to undertake. These will be posted on moodle and students who are interested in taking this course can then express a preference. The final allocation of projects will be based on the degree of interest expressed for each particular projects and the academic performance of the student.
This course is taught mainly through supervision with a member of academic within the department. Students will meet their supervisor for four sessions during the term. Supervisors will guide students in the selection of reading specific to the topic chosen.
