Description
The kidneys are essential to health and are the major homeostatic organs in the body. They regulate the balance of water, electrolytes and minerals, regulate blood composition and pressure and have an endocrine role in the production of red blood cells and bone. Supporting this homeostatic role are various other endocrine organs that produce and regulate the hormones that are critical for health. This module aims to provide a general introduction to the basic function and the physiology of the kidney and the other major endocrine organs, what happens when things go wrong and how they can be treated.
