Description
The Malnourishment and Obesity module will introduce you to the issues of over- and under-supply of nutrients and its effects on human health and disease. You will be introduced to dietary assessment methods and explore concepts of under- and over- nutrition from an integrative perspective. You will discuss topics such as dietary deficiencies, fluid and alcohol intake and their systemic effects on human health and you will be introduced to the basics of medical nutritional therapy. You will also be able to appreciate the basics of behavioural change principles underpinning nutritional intake.
After taking this module you are expected to be able to identify and review the literature and synthesise appropriate conclusions from the evidence-base on malnourishment and obesity. You will be able to formulate a suitable dietary intervention for a clinical population group and to demonstrate an understanding of a relevant clinical/public health nutrition problems using different communication methods.
As well as lectures and tutorials, you will have an opportunity to work on disease case studies and practice your oral and written presentation skills.
