Description
This module unpacks the consequences of social media for both the individual and society at large. Using a series of social media platforms as case studies, students will be introduced to fundamental debates surrounding issues of power, information and communication within contemporary social networking practices. Students will further critically analyse how these concepts continue to change our understandings of ourselves and the world in which we live. Specific themes mayÌýinclude:
- Misinformation
- Digital Labour and Digital Capitalism
- Digital Relationship Cultures and Consent
- Influencer Culture and Like Economies
- Social Media in the Post-Pandemic Era
