Description
This Masters-level module will invite students to discuss, debate and evaluate the latest cutting-edge scientific research on autism research and practice. Taught through individual- and group-based learning approaches, students will not only broaden their understanding of autism research and practice, but will also develop an essential range of soft skills (e.g., creative thinking, teamwork, communication).
Sessions will be facilitated by international leaders in the field, and led by the Centre for Research in Autism and Education (CRAE) at IOE. Sessions will be structured around group tasks (e.g., debates, presentations) and activities (e.g., creating an engaging and accessible overview of a research paper, interviewing an autism researcher/advocate about their work). Students will be able to tailor each activity to their own areas of interest in the field of autism.ÌýÌý
The module is delivered in face-to-face sessions at IOE and is for anyone who wants to (a) enhance their knowledge and understanding of the latest autism research and practice, and (b) develop a range of essential and transferrable soft skills.
Note: Assessment deadlines for this module are spread throughout the entire module (approx. every fortnight), as opposed to being at the end of the module. ÌýStudents will need to ensure that they can prioritise attendance at sessions and devote enough time to working on assessments during the module.
