  • Young visitors from Liverpool came to visit °×С½ãÂÛ̳ today as part of a Leadership Project organised by the University of Liverpool.

'Leading the Way' is a Widening Participation (WP) project involving 25 Year 11 pupils identified as having 'leadership potential' from schools in the Merseyside area. These students visited London and °×С½ãÂÛ̳ to discover more about the qualities of leadership and enterprise necessary to build for a successful future, broadening their view of the world and their relationship to it.

The group were given a special presentation on °×С½ãÂÛ̳ life from °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Student Ambassadors at the university, followed by a tour of the campus and finishing with an entertaining taster lecture entitled 'The Philosophy of "The Matrix"' led by two postgraduate students, Eli Pine and George Hull. After leaving °×С½ãÂÛ̳, the students took a trip on the London Eye and visited the inspirational Churchill Museum at the Cabinet War Rooms.

Gifts were exchanged between the two universities, strengthening ties of friendship between the two cities in the lead up to Liverpool becoming the European Capital of Culture in 2008. Jim Riches of the °×С½ãÂÛ̳ WP Office said: "It is wonderful to see these young people gaining the necessary skills for university and life in general."

Coordinator Deonne Devers, from the University of Liverpool WP Department, added: "We hope this visit helps to empower these young people to make informed decisions about the future".
