°×С½ãÂÛ̳ students win 2013 National Mooting Competition

Two °×С½ãÂÛ̳ students have won this year's Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition for the first time in 41 years, having beaten Liverpool John Moores University in the President's Court of the Royal Courts of Justice.

Held on the 27 June, the °×С½ãÂÛ̳ pair of Astina Au, an affiliate student from Hong Kong, and Jia Jun Toh, a second year undergraduate, argued the fictitious legal appeal case, "ChemBuild Refineries Ltd v IndoPet Explorations Ltd", winning the Silver Mace and £1,000 each for their efforts.

The final was judged by a panel chaired by Lord Collins of Mapesbury LL.D., F.B.A, the other members of the panel, Sara Cockerill QC and Nigel Eaton QC, joined Lord Collins in praising the well prepared performances of the four finalists.

It is the second time that °×С½ãÂÛ̳ has won the competition, which is run on a simple knockout basis of 64 teams. °×С½ãÂÛ̳'s first win was in 1972, the competition's inaugural year.Ìý

Registration for next year's mooting competition will be open at the beginning of the academic year.
