Top 5 alternative °×С½ãÂÛ̳ study spots
18 March 2016
With exams just around the corner, now is a good time explore some of °×С½ãÂÛ̳'s lesser-known study spaces and get down to some revision.
Here are some of our top options that you might want to check out:
°×С½ãÂÛ̳ Senate House Hub
The °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Senate House Hub opened in 2015 and provides 144 study spaces. What's more, you can check how many spaces are available online before you head to the hub!
Located on the 3rd floor of the South Block of Senate House, the hub has room for individual and group study in traditional library spaces, as well as more casual arm chairs and bar-style desks.
Alongside 22 PCs, there are also printing, scanning and photocopying facilities, and audio and visual equipment integrated within the project work spaces.
°×С½ãÂÛ̳ Eastman Dental Library
The newly refurbished °×С½ãÂÛ̳ÌýEastman Dental Library is located halfway along Gray's Inn Road and is open Monday to Friday, 9am-8pm.
The library has 72 state-of-the art study spaces, and full IT facilities are available, including PCs, printing, scanning and photocopying.
Separated from the main library area is a quiet reading room with computer study desks. The library also has a study pod for meetings and small group presentations, and a computer cluster room with an interactive whiteboard.
The JBS Haldane Student Hub
The JBS Haldane Student Hub, tucked inside the °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Anatomy Building extension, has just celebrated its third birthday.
Built as part of °×С½ãÂÛ̳'s Bloomsbury Masterplan and designed using student feedback, the hub is an alternative to the traditional quiet library.
The social study space is divided into two zones: the first section has sofas and chairs, with a computer cluster in the centre; the second, southern area has group-learning tables for four to six people each, a snake bench and two small rooms with whiteboards for group study.
With the Main and Science libraries nearby if you fancy a quick change of scene and the Print Room Café also close by, the JBS Haldane Student Hub is a perfect revision spot if you'd like to avoid stuffy revision spaces.
°×С½ãÂÛ̳ Language & Speech Science Library
Tucked away just off Tavistock Place, the °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Language &
Speech Science Library (LaSS) has disabled access and has recently been refurbished to add extra study spaces.
The LaSS Library has a large reading room for quiet study
and there are also five student cluster PCs, a group study room and additional coffee table-style seats.
With only 49 spaces, LaSS is smaller than the most °×С½ãÂÛ̳ Libraries and tends to fill up relatively quickly, so get there early to avoid disappointment.
Senate House Library
This one may be cheating as theÌý is not technically a °×С½ãÂÛ̳ library, however all °×С½ãÂÛ̳ students and staff can .
Based in Senate House since 1937, the central library for the University of London is a real gem of a traditional style library.
With millions of books and journals in closed stacks, an 'Everyware' service to loan members MacBook Pros, Airs and iPads within the library and regular exhibitions, Senate House Library offers somewhere a little less used by °×С½ãÂÛ̳ students but perfect for knuckling down to some hard work.
