Project TitleÌý
Novel Retrofit Technology Incorporating Robots for Lower Energy Healthy Buildings
Background & Summary of Project
Dzhordzhio is based at °×С½ãÂÛ̳ IEDE and is Head of Science Strategy and Operations at the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), which is part of the .ÌýHis research focuses on volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from insulation materials and their interrelationship with ventilation strategies, energy, and indoor air quality.Ìý
Before 1985, UK homes were not required to have any insulation in the walls or floors in order to comply with building regulations. The UK building stock contains more than 15 million UK homes built pre 1990. In order to address this urgent demand for retrofittng, Q-Bot Ltd have developed cutting edge robots that apply insulation on existing buildings. The potential for energy savings, reducing fuel poverty and carbon emissions is high, although the changes to the indoor environmental conditions need to be further examined. The research project aims to identify and quantify the interrelationship between energy saving potential, ventilation strategies, indoor air quality (VOCs) and heritage values.Ìý
